Gamerweblog.com is putting together a series of interviews with gaming ladies of all walks of life. In an effort to put the spotlight on what many still believe is a rarity, the girl who is an avid gamer. Today we highlight: Megan Turney.

Can you briefly explain what you do?
“I do all sorts of things, but most notably I’m a cosplayer. I sew and wear costumes from videogames, anime, and comic books at conventions. It’s a hobby I started more than 10 years ago.”

Does that leave you a great deal of time to play games?
“Sadly, no. I wish it did, but it’s hard to find lots of free time to sit down and play. I like being busy, though, so I just have to be a little more selective about what I play.”

As  CosPlayer what is the main factor for picking a specific character to play? Are they all from games you love? Is it the character’s design that draws you to them? Are they perhaps commissioned by publishers?
“First of all, I have to love a character. If I love the character or the particular game or anime they’re from, I’m so much more motivated to make the costume perfect, but for some (like Ame-Comi Zatanna), and it was nice that Zatanna is such a badass character, but it was really all about the costume design. I’ve never been paid to create a costume.”

How would you picture your perfect night of video games?
“Hmmm… well, pizza is a must. I love playing with a bunch of people – being loud and silly. Some of my favorite memories from college are of a big group of people all playing Mario Party or Bomberman just being silly and having a good time. I also love to bunker down and chew through a game all by myself – that sounds so lame, but it’s true.”

Are there any games that you are playing through at the moment?
“I’m playing through a couple different games at once, depending on my mood. I’m playing Pokemon Blue on my GBA SP, the last Professor Layton game on my DSi, and I’m going back through Super Meat Boy on my 360.”

What upcoming games are you looking forward to?
“More than anything else, Borderlands 2 has me foaming at the mouth. I absolutely loved the first one, and I can’t wait to see how they’ve improved it the second time around. I’ve actually been debating breaking it out again to get myself more excited. I’m also really excited about RE6. I know most people didn’t like RE5, but I loved it.”

Any hints as to what your next CosPlay projects will be?
“I’ve been debating when I’ll take another pass at Cortana, but the problem is I want to use only the best materials and they cost a lot of money. For Comikaze, I’ll be redoing all the armor on my Psycho costume and I’ll either be taking Bulma’s motocross outfit from Dragon Ball or Lilith from Borderlands.”

Do you have a favorite platform that you play games on? And can you explain why it is your favorite?
“SNES is hands-down my favorite. I just grew up playing it and it’ll always have a special place in my heart. Nowadays, though, it’s my Limited Edition RE5 Xbox 360.”

To conclude the article, I’d like to use this set of ten questions that I have prepared to include in every interview. For this I have taken inspiration from Bernard Pigott and James Lipton (Inside The Actor’s Studio).

Here they are, the Trivial Ten!

1. What is your favorite word?
“Infatuation.”

2. What is your least favorite word?
“Moist.”

3. What draws you into a game?
“Good gameplay/interesting story.”

4. What turns you off of a game?
“Bad camera angles.”

5. What game mechanic do you love?
“Puzzling and platforming.”

6. What game mechanic do you hate?
“Anything that requires backtracking. If I have to run somewhere I just was, I’m going to be pissed.”

7. What is your favorite curse word?
“Fuck. I really say it waaaay too much.”

8. What game that you’ve not played would you like to pick up?
“I never played Fallout3. I remember I had a crazy class schedule when it came out and so I never got into it. The guy I was dating when it came out would let me play his game a little bit, but it’s definitely one I want to take the time to play at some point.”

9. What games do you steer clear from?
“FPSs like Call of Duty, Battlefield, games like that. I do pick them up from time to time, but not often.”

10.  If you were to design a game, what would be the name of the main character?
“Violette. “

I would like to take this moment that thank you for answers. And would like to leave you some space for any final comments you may have for the readers. Is there anything in particular you want to share?
“Just thank you so much for having me and I hope you guys enjoy my work! <3”
