Gamerweblog.com is putting together a series of interviews with gaming ladies of all walks of life. In an effort to put the spotlight on what many still believe is a rarity, the girl who is an avid gamer. Today we highlight: Tara Babcock
Hello Tara, can you briefly explain what you do?
“I’m a pro model by profession, but I am also trying to make my mark in the gaming industry and, more specifically, eSports! I’m also a resident writer for an international gaming website called Impulse Gamer!”
Does being a model ever interfere with your gaming habits? Have you ever been away for a shoot when a long awaited game launched?
“Sure, that has happened often, I usually pre-order my favorite games, but I have a long list of games that I want to play through, and a lot of titles from my favorite franchises are still waiting in line to be played anyway, so it’s not too bad if I’m out of town for releases and such.”
What games are you playing at the moment?
“I finally finished Persona 4 with over 120 hours of gameplay logged. I’m now working on the Batman games and, of course, playing StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and the Heart of the Swarm beta regularly. I’m also playing a bit of League of Legends, Diablo III, and Team Fortress 2!”
Do you play multiple games at once, or stick to one until it’s done?
“I like to stick to one offline game at a time, play through story mode, try out any online components, and then move on to the next one! I like exploring new stories, concepts, and gameplay styles.”
What are some of the other games that you enjoy playing?
“My favorite titles are God of War, Darksiders, Metal Gear Solid, most Shin Megami Tensei Games, and most Blizzard games. I have a ton of favorites aside from those as well. Of course Super Mario games are on the top of that list!”
Can you explain what drew you into playing video games?
“When I was younger it was an activity that my dad and I had in common, so we always had the newest consoles and games. I would play with friends and try to get my other friends who weren’t into games playing as well. I can remember playing video games as one of my oldest memories growing up.”
Do you have any favorite game characters? What about them makes them speak to you?
“Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat is my favorite. I just love how he’s a brute, but he’s also a super intelligent and powerful sorcerer as well. A lot of people don’t know that he’s actually more powerful and smarter than Shang Tsung! I think the movies portrayed him poorly as a run-of-the-mill meathead, when he is not. He’s super hot, too!”
Do you have any pet peeves about video games?
“First-person shooters often make me dizzy, and overall I just don’t like the genre because I don’t feel like such a shortened perspective with no peripheral vision is ideal or even natural. Some of them like TF2 and HAWKEN can be fun, though. Plus, I can’t see how cool my character looks when I am always in first-person mode. Melee combat makes it even worse!”
Are there any upcoming games that you’re looking forward to?
“Every year I look forward to the new installation of Assassin’s Creed. This year sounds very promising! I got to check out some media-only stuff and get some interviews because I write for a company called Impulse Gamer, which was really cool. Plus, the new ACs always come out around my birthday, which is awesome!”
Do you have a favorite platform that you play games on? And can you explain why it is your favorite?
“My favorite platform is PS3. They have the best console games, best graphics, and most ergonomic and comfortable controller. I play a ton on the PC now, but it’s harder for me to use a keyboard than a controller or joystick, unfortunately.”
To conclude the article, I’d like to use this set of ten questions that I have prepared to include in every interview. For this I have taken inspiration from Bernard Pigott and James Lipton (Inside The Actor’s Studio).
Here they are, the Trivial Ten!
1. What is your favorite word?
“Über! I have a sort of German fetish, and I love that crossover word. I’m sure there are others, but that’s the first that comes to mind.”
2. What is your least favorite word?
“I’m not sure, I would have to think of really ugly-sounding words. For the sake of this interview, I’ll go with “regurgitate”!”
3. What draws you into a game?
“The characters, story and premise, gameplay, and graphics loosely in that order.”
4. What turns you off of a game?
“If any of the formerly mentioned really suck, or if it’s a game that has lots of spelling or grammar mistakes. It shows laziness, and I’m a writer, so that stuff stands out to me.”
5. What game mechanic do you love?
“I like RTS games where speed and skill reward you, but at the same time that can be very tiring and stressful. I also, on the other hand, love fun, easy hack-and-slashers or button mashers to relax and unwind.”
6. What game mechanic do you hate?
“I dislike imbalanced games or games that rely too much on other people, or synergy with a group, especially online where I don’t know my teammates. I loved owning a raiding guild in WoW, but other people’s shortcomings that reflected poorly on me and my guild always really irked me.”
7. What is your favorite curse word?
“Fuck or cock!”
8. What game that you’ve not played would you like to pick up?
“I still need to play through the Mass Effect series! I’m excited to make choices to unravel my story plot!”
9. What games do you steer clear from?
“Anything that will take up too much time that has no foreseeable end, like World of Warcraft. I absolutely love that game and the Warcraft universe, but I spent too much time on it for no real gain. Things like StarCraft take time, but they improve me in so many other real-life, and gaming, ways that make it really rewarding!”
10. If you were to design a game, what would be the name of the main character?
“Tara Babcock, obviously. The little blonde with the big boobs who wears a bikini and defeats monsters in droves Sucker Punch style!”
I would like to take this moment that thank you for answers. And would like to leave you some space for any final comments you may have for the readers. Is there anything in particular you want to share?
