Gamerweblog.com is putting together a series of interviews with gaming ladies of all walks of life. In an effort to put the spotlight on what many still believe is a rarity, the girl who is an avid gamer. Today we highlight: Cheryl Wyld known better as Wyldryce.
Hi Cheryl, can you briefly explain what you do?
“I’m Supermom to my two daughters, it’s definitely more fabulous than it sounds because of my mini-geeks.”
Does that leave you a great deal of time to play games?
“It really depends on the day. Everyday is different, but I usually wait till my kids are asleep to play.”
What would your picture perfect night of video games look like?
“Every night, my husband and I sit in our king size bed in front of our 60 inch 1080p TV and play. We usually have snacks and whatnot. It’s a pretty sweet deal.”
What are some of the other games that you enjoy playing?
“I love WoW, the Assassin’s Creed series, Borderlands, Batman: Arkham series, DCUO, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, Kingdoms Hearts… I could keep going and going. I’ve always played video games and can remember almost every Christmas my brother and I would get a new system. Between my brother and I we almost owned every system.”
Does your gaming follow your cosplaying? Or the other way around?
“Not currently, I really want to create my own Assassin’s costume. I made one for my seven-year-old daughter for Halloween this year. It was awesome.”
when picking a new cosplay.. does the costume itself also factor in the decision? Have you ever skipped a particular one because the outfit would be too complicated to produce?
“Oh yes! I’ve only been cosplaying for almost 2 years. My skills are slowly developing into more advanced ways. I definitely want to do more complicated costumes, ones with elaborate armor and cool weapons.”
Do you have a favorite cosplay that you’ve done. What about that one makes it stand out for you?
“My favorite would have to be my Baroness from G.I. Joe. It way my first costume I made, so it’s special to me. I made most of it out of duct tape and most people couldn’t even tell.”
What would be your dream cosplay to put together?
“Ooooooo….. hmmm, honestly it would have to be a Godzilla suit, though I don’t think I could physically wear it because I would be too small. I would still make one and most likely force my husband to wear it.”
Okay, back to games a little. What are some of the upcoming things that have you excited at the moment?
“I’m more excited to have the money to buy what’s already out compared to what is coming out. I really want to build my own gaming computer and get back into WoW. My comp broke right before I started cosplaying, one of the bigger reasons why I started cosplaying, I needed a new hobby. I still get that WoW itch once in a while. I’m behind two game expansions and my inner nerd is slowly dying.”
Do you have a favorite platform that you play games on? And can you explain why it is your favorite?
“When I was a kid it was my Sega Game Gear, because it was all mine and not my brother’s. And I was obsessed with playing the Lion King game. I have a Wii, an Xbox 360, and a PS3. Out of those 3, I use the PS3 the most. I like the controls better and the fact I can watch BluRays on it.”
To conclude the article, I’d like to use this set of ten questions that I have prepared to include in every interview. For this I have taken inspiration from Bernard Pigott and James Lipton (Inside The Actor’s Studio).
Here they are, the Trivial Ten!
1. What is your favorite word?
“Bazinga, just kidding. Boobs, it’s so fun to say.”
2. What is your least favorite word?
“The C-word, not be because of what it means, but more the fact that first syllable sound.”
3. What draws you into a game?
“Story line and graphics.”
4. What turns you off of a game?
“Controls, if there’s too many buttons to remember, it annoys me.”
5. What game mechanic do you love?
6. What game mechanic do you hate?
7. What is your favorite curse word?
“I use the F-word a lot, especially when I’m playing something online. I’m really competitive and it brings the douchebag out of me.”
8. What game that you’ve not played would you like to pick up?
“Assassin’s Creed 3, Catacylism and Mists of Pandoria.”
9. What games do you steer clear from?
“Anything first-person shooting cause I get motion sickness.”
10. If you were to design a game, what would be the name of the main character?
“WyldRyce, just playing. It would really depend on what the game is about.”
I would like to take this moment that thank you for answers. And would like to leave you some space for any final comments you may have for the readers. Is there anything in particular you want to share?
“Don’t be afraid to be who you are and don’t let one thing define you. We are all a different combination of coolness. “
