Gamerweblog.com is putting together a series of interviews with gaming ladies of all walks of life. In an effort to put the spotlight on what many still believe is a rarity, the girl who is an avid gamer. Today we highlight: Ashley Hay
Hey Ashley, can you briefly explain what you do?
“I am a graphic designer, cosplayer, geek, wife and cat mother that really enjoys playing viedogames and has from a young age. I have written about videogames for a few blogs and was on a podcast for 3 years about videogames called the Yet Another Gaming show @ FancyPantsGangsters.com.”
Do you get to dedicate a lot of time towards playing games?
“I try to. I find that I can be hot and cold with my time on them with two jobs right now. So many good games seem to come out at the same time so I will go from gaming everyday to a couple days a week when I have beaten or game or level up pretty far in multiplayer games.”
What would your perfect night of video games look like?
“Mac ‘n Cheese, wine and the husband and friends playing something co-op or multiplayer.”
What are some of the games that you are playing right now?
“Halo 4, Resident Evil 6 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7.”
Do you get a chance to finish games before moving on, or do you have an ever growing collection of games to get back to?
“I really try to beat a game before I move on but it seems with games like Halo, I will switch between the campaign and playing online. I also don’t mind playing a few games at a time.”
Does your cosplaying have an effect on your gaming? Do you find that you’re more aware of aesthetics?
“I would say it does in that I will play as a character that I really enjoy and try to figure out if I can cosplay as that character ad try to see if it is realistic for me to do. I am very detail orientated in general so I do focus a lot on aesthetics in games.”
Do you tend to pick characters from games that you like or do you pick games that have characters that you like?
“I usually pick characters from games that I like.”
When picking a new cosplay.. does the costume itself also factor in the decision? Have you ever skipped a particular one because the outfit would be too complicated to produce?
“The costume is definitely key and how it will look on me. Not every costume is right for every body type. I have not done a few characters based on how much it would cost and how time consuming the costume would be. It usually doesn’t take long to figure out if I am going to try a costume or not.”
Do you have a favorite cosplay that you’ve done. What about that one makes it stand out for you?
“I think my favorite cosplay would be Ame-Comi Mera. I love Aquaman so being able to be a different version of his wife is really fun. Plus, the guys at DC Comics loved it and were super nice when they saw me wearing it.”
Okay, back to games a little.
What are some of the upcoming things that have you excited at the moment?
“I am excited to play COD: Black Ops II which we bought but I have not played yet since I am in Halo 4 mode. I also got Borderlands 2 and really want to play that soon.”
Do you have a favorite platform that you play games on? And can you explain why it is your favorite?
“Xbox 360 is my favorite. The whole Xbox Live interface is really nice and the controller is really comfortable in my hands. Achievements are awesome as well.”
To conclude the article, I’d like to use this set of ten questions that I have prepared to include in every interview. For this I have taken inspiration from Bernard Pigott and James Lipton (Inside The Actor’s Studio).
Here they are, the Trivial Ten!
