Gamerweblog.com is putting together a series of interviews with gaming ladies of all walks of life. In an effort to put the spotlight on what many still believe is a rarity, the girl who is an avid gamer. Today we highlight: Jess Brohard.

Hi Jessica, thank you for taking the time out of your day to be part of this series.
“You’re very welcome, and thank you for the opportunity to be featured on your blog!”

Can you briefly explain what it is that you do for a living?
“I am a freelance reporter and on-camera host for the gaming industry; I write for a news agency called playnews, and I also host videos for MMOBomb.com and a few other websites.”

Does that leave you a great deal of time to play games?
“It varies greatly week to week! Some weeks I’m way more busy than others, but most of the time I have a least some time to play games.”

When you get home and have the night to yourself, what is the first thing you grab to play?
“Dota 2! It’s my favorite game.”

Any game(s) that you are playing through at the moment?
“I’ve just started playing League of Legends; I typically play a lot of Dota 2 so I thought I’d give League a try as well! I also recently got Alan Wake, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Castle Crashers, and I started playing Skyrim again!”

Do you get a chance to finish the games that you play? Or is there a stack of unfinished games collecting in your room?
“Definitely the latter – but the “stack” of games is my Steam library :)”

What would you say is the reason you play games? What do you want to get out of playing them?
“Depends on the game! Overall, a few reasons I play games are to have fun and being able to play with my friends that don’t live in my area. But if I’m stressed out or just want to take it easy, I’ll usually play a relaxing single-player game.”

Do you have a favorite platform that you play games on? And can you explain why it is your favorite?
“My favorite platform is definitely PC, for lots of reasons. I much prefer the mouse + keyboard layout over controllers, but I love that you can also use a controller on PCs if you like, using programs like JoyToKey. Also, PC games don’t require an online subscription like Xbox Live does, and there are so many more customization options – you can change the graphics settings to match the specs on your PC, or change the key layout.”

What are some of the upcoming games that you’re excited about? What about them peaked your interest?
“Although the game was already released on consoles, I’m excited about the PC release of Resident Evil 6, since I liked 5 a lot. I’m also excited about Dead Space 3, since I loved the first two!”

To conclude the article, I’d like to use this set of ten questions that I have prepared to include in every interview. For this I have taken inspiration from Bernard Pigott and James Lipton (Inside The Actor’s Studio).

Here they are, the Trivial Ten!

1. What is your favorite word?

2. What is your least favorite word?

3. What draws you into a game?
”Depends on the game! Sometimes it’s the graphics, other times it’s storyline, and sometimes it’s simply how fun the game is!”

4. What turns you off of a game?
“When it’s grindy to the point of not being fun.”

5. What game mechanic do you love?
“In-game puzzles/riddles, like where you have to figure something out before advancing on. For instance, in Skyrim, when in some caves you have to change the stones around so that they’re displaying the eagle, snake, and whale in the correct order before the door will open.”

6. What game mechanic do you hate?
“Timed missions! They make me feel panicked!”

7. What is your favorite curse word?

8. What game that you’ve not played would you like to pick up?
“Probably the Mass Effect series – I own the first two, but I never played them!”

9. What games do you steer clear from?
“Racing games and fighting games. I’m just no good at them, and don’t particularly find them fun.”

10. If you were to design a game, what would be the name of the main character?
“Jessica :)”

I would like to take this moment that thank you for answers. And would like to leave you some space for any final comments you may have for the readers. Is there anything in particular you want to share?
“Thank you so much for having me!”
